UMBRO 1984-87/88

The nation team returned Umbro as their kit manufacturers at the beginning of 1984. The home shirt went back to basics, to a more tradition plain white, with blue and a touch of red piping, also using the now fashionable shadow stripes through the material. The now familiar red choice for the away style was used, being the reverse of the home shirt.

The last appearance of the Home International Championship in 1984, through the resultant annual Rous Cup Competition and a slightly amended shirt for the 1986 World Cup Finals, these styles saw use over a three year period for the home and nearly four years for the away style. An Airtex (Aertex) version of both home and away designs were worn in the pre-World Cup Azteca Tournament in Mexico during the summer of 1985 which then became modified for use in the '86 Finals competition, although this wasn't strictly an Airtex design.
For shirts from the 1986 Mexico Tournament in the collection, see the World Cup Finals section of the shirt gallery.

The home design saw its last outing against Turkey in April 1987 with the red away seeing continuing use until the Israel friendly in February 1988.
