England Match Shirts

Guestbook

Tony Woodcock's England Admiral home style match worn shirt from the Home International (British) Championship game against Scotland at Wembley Stadium on 23rd May 1981. Woodcock, then playing his club football in West Germany at Cologne but a former team mate of Nottingham Forest's Kenny Burns, an unused Scottish substitute in this game, exchanged shirts post match. The shirt comes from Kenny Burns personal shirt collection and from whom were lucky enough to obtain it.

The shirt was strangely later signed by another former club team mate of Burns, Trevor Francis, who coincidentally, replaced Woodcock as a substitute at half time in the 1981 fixture. It was another Nottingham Forest team mate, Scotland's John Robertson, who bagged the games only goal from the penalty spot in the 64th minute. Always happy to celebrate victory over the Auld Enemy, Scotland were the only nation to play their 3 games in the annual round robin style tournament. The political troubles in Northern Ireland saw both England & Wales decline to travel to Belfast meaning the 1981 championship was the only time, outside of the World War years, which was not completed and thus failed to produce a winner.
