Brian Greenhoff's England red away "airtex" match worn shirt from the International friendly against Uruguay in the Estadio Centenario, Montevideo on 15th June 1977. Post match Greenhoff swopped shirts with Beethoven Javier. The shirt is the rare airtex or aertex, tea bag holed shirt, worn as an away shirt in this material for the first time on this tour. Brian Greenhoff was capped 18 times by England between 1976 and 1980, the Uruguay game being his 12th international appearance. His first 17 caps came whilst a Manchester United player, with his final appearance against Australia when with Leeds United. He tragically died suddenly in May 2013 aged only 60.

The Uruguay match was the 3rd and final game of England's end of season South American Tour, which was supposed to be an
acclimatisation exercise in readiness for the 1978 World Cup Finals in Argentina. The Uruguay game finished as a goaless draw, just as the tours opening game against Brazil had. Stuart Pearson's 3rd minute goal had given England a share of the spoils in Buenos Aires against Argentina, who were of crowned World Champions a year later in the same stadium, a tournament that England were eventually to miss out on.
